Help me name my new hard drive

I got a new 500GB drive thanks to Twitter, Robert Scoble and Seagate yesterday. Use Twitter or FriendFeed and win a new Seagate Drive. I was #18 of 20 who won a drive, but this leaves me with a decision to make.

I name my hard drives after Beatles songs. I’ve done this for about 7 years now with one exception. Here’s the list of what I’ve named drives so far:

  • Her Majesty
  • Julia
  • Revolution 1
  • Revolution 9
  • Another Girl
  • Dear Prudence
  • Dizzy Mizz Lizzy
  • Elenor Rigby
  • Glass Onion
  • Lady Madonna
  • Lovely Rita
  • oh Darling – My favorite Beatles song ever
  • Sexy Sadie

Pretty sure that’s the complete list. I went with a food theme for a little while and then a women’s name theme. Revolution 1 and 9 are identical 320GB drives that are used as backup.

Should I continue with Beatles songs? Should I move onto something else? Should I sell the naming rights?

I think you should go with the classic, “fluffy”.

But if you’re sticking with Beatles tunes, how about “Blackbird”? It works for a spyplane, why not a hard drive.

I name all my Macs and iPods for Shakespearean characters. The desktop systems are male, and the laptops are female. I don’t have a rule for iPods, although my last two have been male just by chance. There was an outlier with my first iPod which I named “Headwig” because of it’s white colour. I think Headwig was a girl.

Good call on Eleanor Rigby. My other (Beatles) suggestions include Something, Girl, Michelle, Norwegian Wood, or Wild Honey Pie. Personally, I’d go with Old Brown Shoe, Help! or Mean Mr. Mustard, but I think those choices are telling of my strained realtionship with technology…

This theme of names is fine, as long as it helps you remember which hard drive is which

I found this coz I couldn't think what to name my new hard drive & was happy to see that you put a simmilar amount of thought into the nameing of yours.
My names generally have to do with the actual hard drive. Examples include:
    2 GB usb = Funsized
    8 GB usb = Hard 8
200 GB external (Actally is coloured pink) = My Pink Box
    1 TB = Terry
other 1 TB = T2 (short for 'Terry 2, the revenge')
I have a black external backup drive that I just called 'Slave' & thinking about it now, I'm glad I didn't call it 'Black Slave'

I came here coz I couldn't think of a decent name for my new internal 2TB drive – but decided in the end to not name it 'Ringo' or anything else with a Beatles motif, but to google a few keywords & see what rolled up first…
    New hard drive = Zeus.
