August 29th, on the corner of Old Town Road and Sylvan Ave on the Trumbull / Bridgeport line. Please someone claim that this dog is yours.

So on our way home from the dog park we saw a little beagle on the side of the road. He was sniffing around in a dangerous area for dogs to be loose in. Since Amber and I are dog lovers, and we would hate the idea of one of our two kids going missing, we went to go help. Amber put the dogs in our house and grabbed a leash to help bring this guy somewhere safe.

He was good on a leash and had marks on his neck showing that he recently was wearing a leash. We called everyone we could think of that could help us, but we wound up taking him to the Trumbull Animal Control Shelter. They don’t kill dogs unless they’re hostile (which he’s not), if they bite (which he probably will not) or if they’re full (they were not). They keep him for nine days for someone to claim him. If not, then he goes up for adoption. Which I might have to fight Amber on, as he got into a little tiff with Leeloo. Anyway, here’s some photos of the cute guy.

Less info on the Craigslist posting. Found a dog on Bridgeport/Trumbull border. Maybe this will help bump it up on Google. Who knows. I’ll keep you updated.

So Leeloo’s been getting pretty fat for a little dog. We found out why.

She’s been going down into the basement, where she found a box of large god treats in a plastic bag. She took the box out, ripped it open and has been sneaking into the basement to eat these treats. This is a large box of treats that has gone straight to her… well… everywhere.

I warned Amber when we got her that she’s street smart and we’d find things and blame them on Matty. When we first moved in, Matty only wanted to go to the bathroom in the basement. So when I heard a dog in the basement, I always assumed it was Matty.

What a bitch!

So it’s been about a month with the new pup. She recognizes her name and perks up when someone says her name. I’ve never taught a dog that before, so that’s cool in my book. She sits and lays down (with a little apprehension) and can hang in the yard without leaving it. We can turn our backs and she does’t run off and she sleeps through the night without having to be leashed to the bed.

Matty has fully taken the responsibility of this new dog being his dog. He watches her eat to make sure that she does before he eats his food, he shows where she can and can’t hang out and is a role model when it comes to listening. The only thing is that he’s protective of Amber and me. If she’s around us, he’ll put himself between her and us. It’s peculiar. He’s the dominant dog and we don’t want to change that, but at the same time we need to show him that it’s perfectly okay if she’s around us and not him. This only resulted in a serious fight once, and I wasn’t around to see it so I couldn’t put Matty in his place. I’m the discipliner between Amber and me, so he wasn’t really yelled at when it happened.

I suppose the next thing would be to teach them both only to do a command when their name is said before it. I’m no dog training expert, but I think that that task is going to be a very difficult one. We’ll see.

Amber takes some great photos of the dogs. Check out her flickr photos.

If it’s a nice photo of the dogs, chances are, it’s hers

And just like that, I’m Emmy and Academy Award Winning Rob Blatt.

Instead of watching the awards, I made some oatmeal with Amber and tried to teach our new dog Leeloo some tricks. She didn’t learn any yet, net even her name.

Leeloo, the supreme being
I’m Leeloo!

Don’t let the photo fool you, she’s smaler than Matty. She’s a skinny little thing. Her and Matty having trouble seeing eye to eye at times (mostly when Matty wants to play) because she’s from Puerto Rico and probably doesn’t speak English like he does. I’ll give her full story later, because the important part is that we have two dogs and Matty has a sister to play with! She’s sneezing a whole lot, maybe it’s cause she stinks and needs a bath real bad.
