If we know what kind of blog we need you can cater to them or attempt to change their habits… this could help for the users and the blog owners have some interests on their users for achieving it.. First of all i have to praise for a reason that you have compared websites and hotel. We are all visiting hotels often but the idea which you only got is miracle. Definitely my website should not be like El Conquistador. The way you explained about El Conquistador is nice to read. Also i had take a look on Smashing Magazine and i loved it. As you said it contains more articles, more content in a different fashion, and perhaps is a Marriott, offering a pool, gym and room service on top of a room.

My blog is like an aging motor inn in a remote small town: poorly maintained with tacky decor, long overdue for an update, and seldom sees any visitors besides the nuisances who come by on a regular basis peddling sex and cheap drugs.

Once you know what kind of services your guests want, you can cater to them or attempt to change their habits. Your core group of guests are te ones that come back regularly and tell their friends. You want those people to be happy, and if you can make a change or two to your hotel that accomodates them better, then they will probably tell more friends and come back more often.

Hey, this is pretty clever. One question though, which I'm not sure on: what is the value of knowing what kind of hotel your blog is?

P.S. The El Conquistador is gorgeous and had to-die for-key lime pie that they brought to my room at midnight, and suddenly I didn't care if it took me forever to walk across the gazillion lobbies.
