Hey Rob. Great chatting with you. Would love to join you for a podcast on this one. While I don't follow *everyone* back (i do screen for offensive behavior, no pic, no real identity (ie bots), and people who write tweets in languages I don't speak)....I do enjoy the community of those I am following. For me, Twitter is a River, and I enjoy being by the river. I also do check certain RL friends to curate information (saved in bookmarks). That's just how I roll. Works for me, not for everyone. And btw - it does not work on FB (which is spam central). On twitter, it's pretty hard to spam me. i mean DM is not that easy... so....we'll see if twitter ever gets polluted. if so, i would cut back on followers.

cheers,
stephanie

I've been on Twitter for over a year and at first I used the you follow me I'll follow you back method. At some point I realized that Twitter was becoming almost useless to me, so I scaled back. That was a bit dicey, but I don't think I broke too many hearts... :)

Each person I follow now I can point to some connection or anecdote that justifies it in my head. There are others I know and like but don't follow- it's not a judgment it's just what works for me, and I'll go thru and add & subtract now and then. I follow some people on other socnets that I don't follow on Twitter, and vice versa.

(and thanks for the shout out for Push My Follow!)
