Android Market Parental Controls

I don’t know if I missed this previously, but there are finally control in the Android Market that allow for parental restriction of apps based on their rating.

  1. Open the Android Market app
  2. Press the menu button
  3. Select the content filtering level
  4. Look in the top right corner for a lock icon, click it!
  5. Set a password

Boom! The Android Market is now restricted.

This doesn’t restrict sideloading, but it does restrict the easiest vector for installing applications.

note: This post is to address an earlier post I’ve written which maintains one of the most popular on the site: Android and Droid: Parental Guidance Suggested.

  1. Thanks so much for this advice. Have been searching ALL DAY to find a way to restrict my childs downloading of adult content (knowingly or unknowingly !!) on Market. Lots to stop him accessing premium rate services and adult internet sites but the control of Android Market seemed impossible. After following your instructions I found it was factory set to be able to download anything. I would never have found this on my own and all other leads I followed on the internet were useless, mostly promoting more of it by adults. Thank u so much from cold, windy and grey England

  2. Thank u so much, i will try it out as soon as i reach home. I was so worried for my 12yr old son. But can u tell me what should i select in the content filtering level.
