The Archives!

So apparently Wiis are still pretty hard to come by. Everyone I know has one and we’ve had one for about six months now. I knew that they weren’t exactly easy to find, but I didn’t think that people are still out hunting for them. We’re getting one as a gift for someone, so it’s back to hunting. For those interested in how I got my hands on my Wii, you can check out my post the right target, the right time.

Yesterday, we got a Wal Mart flier in the mail that very clearly showed a Wii for sale for $249.24 on the back page. The price here is important. If I wanted a Wii, every accessory known to man and seven games (six of my choice) I could buy Wal Mart’s Nintendo Wii Customer Choice Bundle. But I know very well that I couldn’t pick out six games that I really wanted for full price for the Wii. That, and since this is a gift, I’m not looking to space SIX HUNDRED AND SEVENTY SEVEN FUCKING DOLLARS. If you’re willing to shell out that kinda money, then you can have your Wii, but those of us who want the $249 Wii? Tough shit.

So I went to Wal Mart, because we got a flier that had a Wii on it. I was there at 7:25 this morning, and I was maybe the third person who was in line. I figured that’s no problem, because even if they got a small shipment of about 10 or 8, I’d still be golden and I’d have the Wii. Also, by that time I heard through the line of people waiting that there was a line of 40 people at Target already. There was advertising in Target’s flier too. So the magical hour of 8:00 rolls around and we are allowed into the worst store on earth. Me and the handful of other people looking for Wiis make our way to video games to find out… they have no Wiis. Not only that, but they didn’t believe every single one of us that we had all seen the same advertisement.

“Hi. I’m the douchey guy from Wal Mart.”

Picture that guy telling you that you’ve wasted your time. Now picture him telling you this at 8:00 on a Sunday where you woke up at 6:30 when there was absolutely no need to. I’m surprised that Wal Mart doesn’t have more murders that occur in their stores on Sunday mornings. I guess the gun section is for self defense, not sales. By 8:00, reports had surfaced that the line was over 50 people long, and Target had sold out of their Wii shipment when all eight, I repeat EIGHT, Wiis were sold in a matter of moments. What I was told was that there are 32 Wiis that are headed towards this particular Wal Mart this week.

The general way things are done is this. If there’s going to be a Wii in the circular that is distributed, they won’t sell them as they arrive during the week, but if there is no Wiis being advertised, then you’re pretty golden for mid week shipments that will end up on the sales floor, not the back room. And their method for us to find out of they got shipments those specified days? Call between certain times every fifteen minutes. That’s his douchey words, not mine.

So which days are they expecting shipments? F you buddy, not till I get mine.

Just killing time online I stumbled upon a bunch of blogs written by people I know. It’s odd when this happens to me, because I’ve been writing online in one form or another for nearly eight years and I always kind of assumed that people I knew weren’t online outside of their bands’ websites or MySpace/Facebook/LinkedIn/Bebo/Virb/JotSpot/etc. There was always Tape’s site, but outside of Tape I didn’t really know anyone else in college who kept a blog. Tape, by the way, was the first person I knew who had their own domain name. Straight out owned their own domain name. Years ago I used one of those free forwarding services for robblatt.com, but didn’t buy it outright.

But this morning I stumbled on two couples I know from college who regularly keep blogs. Perhaps I’ll have to include a blogroll, know that I know that other people I’ve met in the meat-space are blogging too.

Heh. Meat-space.
