So I left my cellphone at a client’s house last Sunday, and it’s been nine days since the last time I used my cellphone. I’ve gotta admit it’s been kinda nice. All my car rides have been without distraction and I’ve been able to think or listen to a podcast or music without interruption. I haven’t been interrupted at work with phone calls from other places I work either. It’s been nice.

I’ve kept up with my messages remotely from the phone and returned calls, but mostly it’s just been quiet. Hopefully this experience will teach me to not want to contact people impulsively as much.

It has been kinda hard on my remembering to call Amber from places before I leave, but I’ll go back to religiously calling as I leave once I get my phone back tonight. So if you’ve been calling me for over a week and haven’t left any messages, I’ll be back on the other end of the phone tonight.

somehow, I just can’t seem to keep the apartment clean. Amber and I try hard now and again to get the entire apartment clean and within days it doesn’t look like we did anything. I just don’t understand it. I suspect we have too much stuff for the small apartment in which we habitate.

It’s not unclean in terms of being dusgusting, there are just things everywhere. There are a few things that I can point to and blame myself outright for being lazy. There’s a walk-in closet in the bedroom, and the light went out a few weeks ago, and I’ve just been too lazy to see what kinda light it takes and replace it. So instead of where the dirty laundry goes, it winds up anywhere it comes off. Whoops.

The vacuum my parents gave me for Hanukkah helps greatly. Most of the dog hair has been removed from the carpet, as well as dust for pretty much everywhere, there was a suprising amount. Apparently my $30 vacuum from random store didn’t really get that stuff off the carpet. Who knew?

WhenI moved in I thought it would be a geat idea if I didn’t get a desk with drawers in it, you know, to reduce clutter. Well, let me tell you how it has NOT reduced clutter. Maybe it did for a few months when I first moved in, because I didn’t HAVE clutter yet. Not there’s clutter and no desk. This will be remedied eventually. Hopefully by me cleaning and making places to put things rather than buying drawers and putting clutter in them.

Soon, I’ll be buying my own home, and I’m in the “looking” phase at the moment. It’s rare that you experience something compeltely new in life once you’re out of college, and this is new for me. when I moved to Avalon Gates I never actually saw the apartment, I was in such a bind about finding somewhere to live that I found an empty apartment and saw it for the first time the day I moved in.

While looknig at the new houses, I didn’t think to look at the condition of the windows, what kind of stove they have, if it’s on a main road, etc. What I knew was that I wanted it to be bigger than my apartment (the apartment is approx. 720 sq feet), not require too much work to move in, have a yard for my dog, and have a decent sized basement for a studio (eventually) and to have band practice in.

the first two times I went to look at houses, I didn’t have the greatest idea of what to look for. I think I’ll ahve better luck tomorrow. Tomorrow I’m looking at a fourth house, and taking a closer look at the third house.

So far, house one and two have had poor locations. House one had a downhill driveway and a septic tank close to the house. House two was off of a main road, had a shared driveway and one of the houses was supposedly abandoned for a few years. House three was in a nice area, looked good, had a fenced yard and I was pretty pleased with it. I just never got a chance to see the basement and spaced out on remembering what the master bedroom looked like.

The internet’s a great help, I couldn’t imagine what looknig for a house was like before you could do your own research online and take a look at maps and research towns. I suppose that real estate agents were much more busy in their offices.
